7.4 Analysis and Discussion of Results

The bibliographic data obtained from the Scopus database was used for the bibliometric

analysis, which revealed relevant scientific production indicators. Table 7.1 shows the ten

most important results for each of these items. China and the United States are the

leading countries, and the rest of the list includes only Asian and European countries.

However, in terms of affiliation, the first nine positions are occupied by institutions

from Asia and Europe, and the United States appears in the tenth position, with the

Northwestern University. In other words, although the United States dominates in total

scientific production, Asian and European institutions are displaying remarkable pro­

gress in bioelectronics-related research.

The number of publications classified in the categories of engineering; materials sci­

ence; chemistry; biochemistry, genetics and molecular biology; and physics was over

1,000. Although in the case of physics the category is shared with astronomy, the docu­

ments are related to bioelectronics. Nevertheless, there is significant progress in areas

such as chemical engineering, medicine, computer science, multidisciplinary studies, and

energy. In other words, progress is being made in the study and understanding of the
